NoFlyCruises has learned that popular, Burton based river cruise and tour specialist, Riviera Travel, has announced a number of no-fly cruises to operate this summer around the British Isles & Ireland. This is the first time Riviera Travel has offered domestic ocean cruising, and it marks a clear industry focus on ex-uk voyages in 2021, as the country seeks to ease out of travel restrictions.
There are two cruises that have initially gone on sale, an Edinburgh to Greenock 8-day journey around Scotland, the Orkneys and Hebrides and an 8-day Greenock round-trip voyage visiting some key ports in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland including Belfast, Dublin and Cork. Both voyages offer two sailing dates, and all depart in July, 2021.
The ship, MS Seaventure is a new name in cruising, having previously been the MS Bremen and operated by Hapag-Lloyd cruises. She is understood to be on charter to Riviera from the new owner. She has a capacity of around 160 guests and 90 crew, with a less than 2:1 guest to crew ratio. The newly refurbished ship has a heated saltwater pool, modern restaurant and gift boutique. A contemporary lounge and bar and a library. There is also fitness suite, sauna and expedition theatre.
The ship previously sailed as an expedition vessel reaching as far as Antarctica and the South Pacific, so she is well appointed for discovery. She has an ice-strengthened hull to cut through pack ice and ice floes, and her shallow draft and small size allow her to reach and anchor off remote bays, suitable rivers, and lesser accessible ports, making her an ideal small-ship to explore the less-visited parts of the British Isles and Ireland. This is made possible with the small fleet of Zodiacs carried on the ship.
The recently launched no-fly cruise programme of four voyages, marks the first time that Riviera Travel has offered Britain and Ireland-based cruising. The company has previously sold group cruises with other lines such as NCL, Star Clippers and Voyages to Antiquity, and also has a programme of smaller, yacht charters in the Croatia region.
A representative from Riviera announced that places are now available on these cruises and that they expect the cabins to sell out quickly to their loyal UK guests.
> Visit Rivera Travel’s MS Seaventure webpage for more details, fares on both itineraries from £1,999 per person
