No fly cruising doesn’t just include ocean sailings, oh, no! It also includes some amazing river cruises and at No Fly Cruises we quite like this newly released itinerary from Scenic, which is aptly titled ‘Tastes of Southern France’.
It’s a five-star adventure through the gastronomic heart of France, basically. Don’t know about you, but cruising and food sound like the ideal partnering to us!
The south of France is famous around the world for its beautiful countryside, amazing architecture and of course, its delicious cuisine. Focusing on the best culinary highlights this region has to offer, this 11-day no-fly river cruise will take guests on a round-trip journey from Lyon, calling at a number of foodie destinations along the way: Mâcon, Chalon-sur-Saône, Tain L’Hermitage, Avignon, and Viviers.
Guests will enjoy a range of unique culinary-related experiences throughout the sailing, including meeting a local truffle farmer and their specially trained dog to learn the tricks and techniques of truffle farming, before a tasting of the delicious fresh produce. Visit an organic goat cheese farm and learn about open air farming with a tasting, and learn about the traditional craftsmanship of barrel making with a local cooper.
Visit the famous wine-growing region of Beaujolais and meet with a local vintner to sample some of his best vintages. Guests will head to the restaurant of acclaimed chef Georges Blanc for a cooking demonstration, or head off on a guided visit to a local food market before participating in an interactive Scenic Culinaire cooking demonstration back on board using the fresh ingredients sourced from the market.
Chef Didier Goiffon and his team will board the Scenic Space-Ship to delight guests with a delicious regional meal. Walk through the quaint town of Tain L’Hermitage sampling local Côtes du Rhône wines and enjoy an exclusive interactive workshop at the Valrhona Cité du Chocolate museum behind closed doors.
Are you hungry now? Yeah, so are we! This sounds like the ideal gastronomic cruise. French cuisine really is something unique and there are many aspects of this sailing that we would deem to be #OnceInACruiseTime – it’s not every day you get to go truffle farming!
So, how do we get to France, we hear you say. Well, return travel by Eurostar is included in the fare price. As well as transfers, exceptional wining and dining experiences, a personal on-board butler, and all shore excursions. Scenic offers no-fly options for a number of European river cruise itineraries at no additional cost.
